My version is up to date, and windows is also up to date. All of a sudden yesterday when I uninstalled some spyware that jumped in with my GIMP download, FF got stubborn. Now every new tab opened is a blank tab instead of the tiles that I had set. I open "about:config" and set "browser.newtab.url" to "about:new tab" This solution works as long as I am still in the current window. Once I close FF and open a new window, it reverts to the blank tab. My add-ons were also all disabled, though I managed to uninstall and reinstall each of them except my avast webrep one. They continue to work even in new FF windows. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling FF, no results. How can I fix this?

Does the value of the browser.newtab.url pref change?

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
