I have lag when I type and backspace, and can only see the silhouttes of dialog boxes including the toolbar

When I type in the firefox browser there is heavy lag, when I back space and when I select things with my mouse. This creates many problems. My 2nd problem is that when ever I right click in the browser It only shows the silhouette of the dialog box and this includes the firefox drop down menu toolbar (File, Edit, View, History etc.)

I have tried starting it with safe mode, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing and I even tried cleaning up some of my bookmarks because I thought that may be slowing it down. Nothing has worked and I am ready to switch to IE if these problems are not resolved.

I've been having all of these problems since around the update from Firefox 31, toward the beginning of august.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

So the weirdest thing happened.. last night I changed my theme to aero with a solid charcoal background. I also uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. They had no affect.

This morning I start my computer up, open firefox and all the problems but 1 are gone. No more silhouette dialog boxes and I can see the drop down menu.

I just disabled hardware acceleration and now there is no typing lag. That was a lot easier than I would have imagined.. lol thanks for the quick help! :)
