I used the SpyHunter 4 free scan to locate 2 files that were being hijacked by the virus. I was able to remove the first file from the add-on file in Firefox. I know I can uninstall Firefox, then reinstall it, but how can I tell if the virus has damaged other files on my computer? Thank you! I currently use Norton, spybot and adaware. Thanks.

there is the adwcleaner tool, removes all registry traces etc. of PricePeep.

and the search reset tool, use both

Which files do you see in that folder?

  • Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\mxqsa88f.default\searchplugins\

This folder stores user installed search engines and if you haven't installed ones yourself the this folder should be empty and you can remove (delete) existing files.

You can delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.

Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
