Sidebar bookmarks do not appear even when bookmarks from top menu do. How is this fixed?

Using the Bookmarks sidebar, I was organizing my bookmarks by creating new folders when I noted that the new folders were not appearing in the sidebar, even though they were appearing in the top menu's Bookmarks drop down menu. Now the Bookmarks sidebar and the Bookmarks dropdown menu do not match, and I don't know how to fix it. Thanks.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
