firefox loads a blank page instead of homepage despite correct tools/options/general settings (win 7)

I am running namoroka and firefox both in win 7. I have set the tools/options/general (or main) tab setting to specify my homepage and to load my homepage when the browsers start. Nevertheless they both open blank pages when I hit the plus button to open a new browser page

If you want the home page to open in a new tab then you can middle-click or hold down Ctrl and left-click the toolbar Home button.
