No one is selling your data.
The VPN only encrypts your internet connection and masks your IP address.
- The built-in VPN protects only traffic within Firefox on your Android device. It is free to use and does not require a subscription.
- To use it you need to sign in with a Mozilla account.
- The built-in VPN includes a 50 GB monthly data limit.
- Browser VPN vs full VPN
- You can subscribe for Mozilla VPN for device-level protection.
It encrypts your internet connection and masks your IP address, preventing your ISP from seeing what you visit but it is not a security suite. It hides your IP and location from the websites you visit, however, if you log into your social media accounts, you are immediately identified.
Ultimately, your security always depends on user behavior.

Also as mentioned in the https://www.firefox.com/en-US/features/browser-with-built-in-vpn-secure-browsing/ page, unlike with a full VPN like Mozilla VPN the browser traffic in Firefox is routed through a proxy server when using the so called built-in VPN.
If Mozilla did not already have a discontinued product called Firefox Private Network then that would have been the more appropriate name instead of referring to it "built-in VPN" since it worked much the same way.

To post on this site means you have a legit Mozilla Account. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/access-mozilla-services-firefox-account#w_what-services-can-i-use-with-a-mozilla-account
