I need to change my password, because my computer broke down and had to be completely reworked, which resulted in the loss of my Thunderbird.

I need a way to change my password in Thunderbird. I cannot sign in with the password I have used for several years, due to the fact that my hard disk had to be completely revamped, which also resulted in numerous files being erased. Apparently, this included my Thunderbird password. Unfortunately, the Thunderbird software does not (yet) make provisions for changing a password. I doubt that I am the only user who would welcome this possibility. I know for a fact that numerous other software programs find ways to enable a change of passwords.

The only password that Thunderbird uses is one you can optionally set to protect your Saved Passwords. That setting can be found at <Settings | Privacy & Security | Passwords | Stored Passwords>. Are you actually talking about changing the password for your email account(s)? If so, you must change your password at the email provider's web site. You can then edit your Saved Password to reflect the newly created password. Here's an article about how to do that:
