I have forgotten primary password so followed advice about resetting but it still asks for primary password before I can put in new one

Did you reset your primary password following Reset your Primary Password if you've forgotten it, or try to Update Firefox to the latest release? I was able to reset it on Firefox 144.0 (Snap for Ubuntu).
Also remember, resetting the primary password will remove all the password you've saved!
