On a new laptop, "Login to the server failed. The configuration, user name or password may not be correct."

Installing Thunderbird on a new Laptop fails: The e-mail address is correct, as is the password. The following message appears : Settings were found in the Mozilla IISP database. After clicking: Done, the error message appears: Login to the server failled. The configuration, user name or password may not be correct. According to my settings, however, evrything is correct. What can I do?
