since converting to fibre, thunderbird always times out trying to connect to my incoming mail server pophm.sympatico.ca. Is fibre too fast for thunderbird?

Converted our Bell connection from copper to fibre. Since then we cannot connect to incoming mail server pophm.sympatico.ca. Thunderbird keeps timing out. What needs to be changed in Thunderbird to fix this? I tried changing mailnews.tcptimeout to 2000. I tried setting network.dns.disableIPv6 to true. Still doesn't work.

There are many causes of timeouts. Most have nothing to do with latency. Disabling IPV6 is often helpful, but only if your provider has made a mess of IPV6

Other things to try are;

  1. Disable anti virus scanning.
  2. Disable VPN.
  3. Run Thunderbird if troubleshoot mode (it is on the help menu).
  4. Run your computer in safe mode with networking while trying 3 over again
  5. Ensure that Thunderbird is set to use DNS over HTTPS. if it is already on, try turning it off and restarting.
  6. you might want to try using the command line to do a tracert to the server. I am outside the bell network and can not even see it. IF they have their Fibre outside their traditional network you might not be able to see it either.

I have deleted the middle in my result showing the 13 steps from my house in Australia to Canada, and the end which repeatedly times out. But clearly there is a firewall blocking further responses from this location.
