Taskbar Icon new message Counter

The counter on my icon always shows double the number of new emails that I actually receive. I've checked the spam/junk/deleted folders and there is nothing being diverted there. Counter says 4, only 2 new emails in my inbox.

Is there something I can do to fix this?

Wild guess here - if you use Gmail and you subscribe to see both All Mail and Inbox you may be seeing all incoming emails twice, because All Mail includes all Inbox messages.
