I was having issues with inability to uninstall and reinstall which fixed using hint from here. But the reason why I was looking into this was because about 3 days ago, I stopped receiving any new mail from Gmail's POP server. Instead it started downloading old mail starting from years ago .. and only in little batches of 300 emails at a time. Fortunately, I have always run Tbird so that my mail is NOT deleted from the server after I read it so everything is there. Anyway, one of the things I tried was to go look at my settings in Gmail to see if something was wrong with how I have the POP server behavior configured and determined that I don't. DID -- and I shouldn't have done this now I know -- tell it to basically RE-download all my POP mail. Which then set up behavior where it every time I would hit "get new POP mail" -- what I'd get is another batch of 300 or so at a time starting back YEARS ago. I tried to uninstall it which I wasn't able to do and why I finally followed the advice I got elsewhere to simply delete the TBird folder and everything else related to it. Before I did that I did in fact create a backup copy of the whole Tbird folder in Roaming. Again .. a story of somehow not a complete backup (sigh..)

Moving forward -- I installed a fresh copy of TBird -- the latest one 32-bit (as advised) 91.2.1. And the behavior I was dealing with before hasn't gone away. Installed two clients -- one for POP and one for IMAP. FYI --- I have two gmail accounts. I access my other gamil account from my laptop using TBird . There I'm having no issues at all. In fact, that installation of TBird has been problem free. It's the one on this machine (a workstation) that's been giving me fits for months. This just the latest. So.. waht the heck do I do? Btw -- working from teh backup copy (incomplete as it is -- missing email back to last November which I've recovered using my IMAP client), I'm restoring the settings from the old installation (tags, etc.)

Whatever advice you can offer would be most appreciated. I'm worried that even I drive myself crazy hitting "Get new mail" over and over that when it finally gets up to the current day (my emails go back to 2008 so I'm using a filter that moves any email before 19Oct21 into the Local Trash), that I STILL won't receive any truly new emails. Sigh....

This may sound weird, but I get so much junk mail everyday that it is impossible to filter all of them, so I'd lie to send all messages to my junk folder while creating exceptions for people in my address list and bona fide senders. Kinda like a reverse junk filter.

For legal reasons, I need to retain a copy locally of all my messages since my mailhost was purchased by another company and they now limit us to 1 GB per email address. Previously I didn't worry about it as there were no limits on mail storage space. I've thoroughly gone through the article on synchronizing messages on the server with messages stored locally on my machine. I cannot get Thunderbird to behave the way it is described in the article. I've tried both checking the box to store all messages locally and the advanced method of selecting folders (and I select everything except spam and junk). The only thing stored locally is what was stored when I initially copied the Inbox (on the server) to Local. All of that synced properly Any changes such as new messages, messages moved to different folders, etc. do not appear in Local. I have tried closing and reopening Thunderbird in hopes that it will work like the article states, that Thunderbird will check the server for changes and save them locally. Alas, it does not.

Did I incorrectly set this up? Do I need to initiate some kind of copy of new or moved to another folder emails? Or something else? I'm reasonably software savvy but this one is eluding me. I am urgently looking for a solution since my mailhost is pressuring me to pay large sums to retain my emails. Thanks very much for any solutions or suggestions

Messages not Showing body in Message pane

When opening my email, it shows that I have new emails. When I click on the messages, the message will continue showing "unread" and will not display in the message pane at the bottom. There is a link that says "Forward this conversation" but even that link does not work, nor do any of the buttons to reply, forward or delete. I can right click on the message, select "open message in new tab" and then I can read the message, reply, forward and so on. If I click on "open message in a new window" it comes up with a black white window with the "Forward this conversation" link that does not work. I also noticed that when I start a new message and attach a file, it no longer shows on the right side of the email in the box, it is now showing at the bottom of the message with a small icon. What is causing the message pane to not work? It has the latest version update installed, I have restarted and shut down all running programs, but nothing is working.

When compiling a message in 91.2.1 and attaching a pdf doc I can not view the doc before sending the email. The error is that the file association must be changed in preferences. Under the preferences, the pdf is set to be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader. After sending the email I can however view the attachment from the sent folder. Please fix this, it is so annoying that you have to check the attachment from Explorer and can not view it in the email before sending

Can not login into my optonline.net account. Thunderbird has not let me sign in for several days. The message was: "Error with account vgimzelb@optonline.net. Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop.online.net responded: Service temporarily unavailable." But I was able to use my password to log into my optimum account directly, and saw that until today, my incoming emails have been updated.

Please help me to resolve this issue. I might not get my email, so could you please also send a text message to my phone 201-926-3848. Thank you, VG.

Good day. My Thunderbird updated to version 91.2.0 Since then, when I press the Delete key, the program does not respond to the mouse wheel. When a message is displayed, I use the mouse wheel to move the message up/down. Now, however, there are a few moments where the program does not respond to the wheel. I have to wait a bit or click on the program window to continue.

tabs blank along with email

I open several emails. I use Ctrl-1 and Ctrl-9 to go back and forth.

I deleted C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\9azxazfvuzfa.default-release\session.json as I couldn't remove the last session when I closed TB.

Now I sometimes get blank tabs along with blank emails.

Delete the file again? Did I mess myself up somehow?

I have an office computer, a laptop and a smartphone, all sending/receiving email via imap. The laptop has not been used for a couple months. When I turned it on today it showed only old messages and would not sync with the server. How can i force it to sync and show my recent messages? Thanks.

It appears briefly when I put my mouse on it, but when I click it selects the particular email to the left.

I have lost access to 99% of my emails (1% is screen of most recent) with this update.

The update for TB 91.2.0 (64-bit) has changed the 'save as' filename schema. The 'save as' filename schema before the update was just the subject of the email. Now, for some mysterious reason that can only be comprehended by those that have ascended, Thunderbird wants the author, date, time and all kinds of pointless things in the file name. No biggie, BUT THE FILENAMES ARE TOO LONG TO IMPORT INTO SOME PROGRAMS. I'm at a total loss of why anything needs a file name of 200+ characters, so the change in Thunderbird has left a gash in my scalp where I've been scratching my head for a few weeks, now.

This is just a complaint. There will be no answers (because I've never gotten a single helpful answer). There will be no acknowledgement. There will only be pain. And no one that causes the pain will care.

I never thought Outlook would be something I'd prefer, but Thunderbird has forced me to reconsider my options.

So one of my Thunderbird profiles stopped being able to send emails. Hit the send button and nothing happens. One of my accounts in same folder is greyed out.

I have tried reinstalling, cleaning up profile, rebuilding folders. Updating did not work and I think that may have broke it (versioun 91.2 x32)

Restarted with no add ons, checked language. Tried a different SMTP server, nothing works. No error at all. Windows 10 64

I have tried setting up Gmail within Thunderbird 78.x.y. After entering credentials, and going again through login to the Gmail popup window I reach a state which is shown in the attached image.

Google security options: 2 factor off, less secure apps on, Captcha refreshed but nothing helps.

Two local folders transformed into "draft" folders

After updating to v. 91 about 2 weeks ago I now noticed that two local folders became draft folders and ALL messages stored there are now "drafts", including all received messages. I did NOT change any account settings. The two folders are among those that I use most frequently.

How can I revert the attributes of these two folders to "normal" local folders again so that the messages stored there are "final" and not "drafts"? Thank you.

I have 4 PCs, all are Windows 10 Pro, version 21H1. All have installed Thunderbird 91.2.0 x64. On all, I am using the Sophos Endpoint Security virus protection.

All PCs but one are working OK with Thunderbird. Recently I changed the password of one of my gmail.com accounts. On three PCs I could update the password settings in Thunderbird without issues. On the fourth, it just didn't accept the new password. So I deleted the account on that PC and tried to recreate it. It worked to the point where I clicked the 'Done' button in the Account Setup dialog and logged into my Google account and clicked 'Allow' to enable Thunderbird to access the Google mail account. At that moment 'Checking password' message changed to 'Unable to login at server' on a yellow background in the Account Setup dialog. On that same PC, I can access Gmail through the web interface without trouble.

When trying to solve the issue I uninstalled the Thunderbird, removed its folders in Local and Roaming folders, then reset the PC and installed the Thunderbird again. The issue was not solved. I can't configure any of the Google accounts, but I have no trouble with the two non-Google IMAP accounts that I have.

Just to make sure, I tried to delete and then recreate a Google account on one of the PCs which seem to work OK and that worked without a glitch.

I also tested the 'problem' PC and was not able to detect any issues except the one with the Thunderbird.

Receiving current emails

I am not able to access current emails on my Thunderbird account. I deleted lots of old emails with the assumption that might help bring up more recent emails.
