Migrating Current Email Account to Gmail - Using Thunderbird as Backup for Folders and Emails

Hi all,

I want to migrate my current email account to Gmail. Unfortunately, it is not possible to import email folders into Gmail.

Therefore, I was thinking of using Thunderbird to first backup all my email folders, then set up my Gmail account and in a last step, import my Thunderbird backup file into Thunderbird again.

I'd appreciate your help on how to do this.
