Tree (2 separate acounts) reorganized itself without being asked, how to reverse this?
Inbox, trash, and sent folders removed from original account tree and are now combined (ex: original - John, inbox, trash, etc; gabi, inbox, trash, etc. / now: Inbox, john, gabi, local folders; trash - the same, sent - the same. Still have john with all of the sub folders as well as gabi). Would like to have uploaded image but would not work.

Sounds like you have chosen the unified folder view instead of the all folder view.
View menu (alt+V) > folders > all. should fix it.

Thanks Matt, it worked. This happened while I was in Berlin for a week and I have no idea what my wife did to create this situation. Nonetheless, thanks much!
MY copy of Thunderbird has a drop down on the top of the folder list, Normally for me it shows the words all folders on it. But clicking it displays all the folder styles.
I do not use that route in support because turning that "bar" on is a user action and only adds steps. But perhaps you wife has that turned on. If you right click a vacant spot on the main tool bar you get a menu to show the toolbar, Menu and the folder pane toolbar
