Leaving messages on IMAP server

When messages are downloaded to my computer they are automatically deleted from the serer. I want to leave them on the server but cannot find an option in the Thunderbird settings to allow this.

Is there one and if so where

Please confirm your account type - POP or IMAP.

When messages are downloaded to my computer they are automatically deleted from the serer.

This only makes sense with a POP account. You can check the option to 'Leave messages on the server' in your Account Settings.

For IMAP accounts messages are always on the server.

to clarify this statement - the point of imap is, what is on the PC mirrors what is on the server, and vice versa.
