how to change default printer in Thunderbird
I have access to several printers which I use in different locations. I have to manually change printer choice with each email letter that I want to print when I change location when using thunderbird. I have already changed the default printer in my printers folder. All other programs including Firefox accept the default printer choice . How can I get Thunderbird to accept my default without my having to delete ALL OTHER PRINTERS????

From the menu bar select Tools-Options-Advanced-General Select the Config Editor Promise to be careful Enter the following into the search field: print_printer When that line appears, right click it and select Reset.
See if it picks up the new default printer after restarting Thunderbird.
No menu bar? Press the alt key.

Can you give us more information? 1.) What OS are you using? Windows XP, 7, 8 or MAC 2.) Is Thunderbird installed locally on each device or are you accessing it on a server? 3.) Are using different devices at each location with different printers?
In Windows Thunderbird should use the default printer if Thunderbird is installed locally.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a Canon 4500 P printer, that should be the default, as it is for all other programs and until recently was for Thunderbird, as well. Thunderbird keeps trying to use PDFCreator, which I use sometimes.
I just went through this procedure and restarted Thunderbird. It now appears to be "hung up" on some function. New mail appeared in my inbox, but it was unable to open it. It's a short notice I receive every day that usually opens in an instant, but now it can't seem to load it. Not sure if it's a direct result of what I just did, but it's very suspicious. Firefox is working normally. Will I have to reinstall Thunderbird?
