Here's some help with screenshots:

I don't use a Mac myself, but a cursory search suggests to press Command+Shift+3 to take a screenshot of the entire screen. Depending on the version of your OS, you may need to open a paint program and select the Paste option, then save the image, or the image may be automatically saved to the desktop.

After you have your screenshot saved, simply upload the image.

First of all, the browser showing on my screen looks absolutely nothing like the browser the FF29 examples show. Mine has all the functional icon buttons (back, forward, stop, refresh, home, download, history, bookmarks,print, open new window, open new tab,cut, copy and paste, all of whose icons are configured up in the right most top corner of my screen.

And when I right-click to customize, all the usual icons drop down like they're supposed to, with the exception that everywhere there's supposed to be just a back-forward arrow, there's this whole batch of function icons (as described above) still stuck together!

I wish someone would help me post screenshots of these--a picture speaks a thousand words.

Okay, so it looks like the only way to post screenshots is to reply to yourself first. Otherwise, you are never provided the "Browse" button to select your images.

I think I know what's going on here but to be sure...

Can you start by giving us the troubleshooting information from the Firefox installation that's having problems. This is an essential step in troubleshooting.

• Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information from the sub-menu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select Troubleshooting Information from the menu.

Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.

• At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
• Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.

Incompatible extensions can cause that.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:


If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

• On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
• On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
• On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
  (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Note that such issues are always caused by a broken extension that isn't compatible with the current Firefox release, so if you have identified this broken extension then check its page on the Mozilla Add-ons website or home page of its developer if there is already a developer version available that addresses this issue.

I notice that you have disabled a lot of network.IDN.whitelist prefs.

Maybe have a look at the comments in the Firefox source code:

cor-el, thank you for your response. I noticed the whitelist prefs. being set to false, but I did not knowingly do this; perhaps it could have occurred through the operation of an add-on. (?) Should they be set to true? I do not know to what each refers!

I appreciate your taking the time to examine my posting. Good thing there are prolific helpers on here such as yourself, because most of the coding or instructions are greek to me!

As chance would have it, Firefox 29.0.1 was released since your 5/5 post to me, and it wiped out all my extensions anyway! So it's as good a time as any to find out which extension is 'broken,' don't you think?
