Why did Google images suddenly stop loading in Firefox 17?

Suddenly 3 aspects of Google stopped working in Firefox from my home computer: 1) autocomplete predictions 2) images 3) maps

All these features work in IE, just not Firefox.

I have been searching the Internet for a solution, because I was sure it couldn't be "just me." But among all the solutions I've found in various places, none have restored these functions.

I have updated Java and Flash. I have checked security levels. I have tried a new Firefox profile. I have verified that the Enable button next to "Run ActiveX controls and plug-in" is selected, AND that the Enable button next to "Binary and script behaviors" is selected, AND that the Enable button under "Active scripting" is selected.

I've tried other solutions as well, but I don't even remember them all (I know, I should have written them down).

OK, I had read while I was searching for suggestions, that someone had discovered that their computer time was set wrong and this interfered with the java certificate, thus disallowing access to Google maps and Google images thumbnails. I immediately looked at my computer time and saw it was showing the correct time in the XP task bar.

What I didn't see, because I didn't check further, was that it was showing the wrong MONTH. I had used the calendar to look for a date in 2013 and apparently had selected November when I reset it. Once I corrected to December AND synced the Internet time as well, everything went back to normal (of course, duh).

Thank you for your help here. I hope the next person looking for a solution has the sense to check the ENTIRE setting for time and date.

Let's work with the new profile, since it should have default settings, no extensions that might be interfering, no old cached files, and no old cookies. Try disabling all plugins except Flash and see whether that makes any difference:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category

Any difference?

Note that many of the settings you reference are for Internet Explorer. To confirm that JavaScript is enabled in Firefox, use this dialog:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Content tab

That's one of the things I couldn't remember. Yes, I've tried this. I've even gone into about:config to check that values were set correctly (for a bunch of different preference settings).

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

Will try these once I get back to my home computer, and report back here.

Thanks!

Hmmm . . . opening Firefox in safe mode does not seem to make any difference. I checked, and all themes and add ons are disabled.

I'm more than a bit lost when it comes to the next part: Try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

The instructions seem to say that starting with Firefox 15, resetting individual preferences should simply devolve to a Reset . . . am I missing something? I'm pretty much cyber-ignorant, so unless it's spelled out clearly step by step, I'm stymied.

Arghhhh!!!

If I had kept track, I could have listed all these as things I had already tried. Still no joy.

Does it come down to Resetting FIrefox and starting from scratch?

Try to Reset firefox. It won't cause you to start from scratch (you will only lose your extensions).
