hello, I had a computer crash ;-( and am now trying to restore as much as I can. I've lost all my bookmarks in the crash, but i do have a copy of them synced to my phone.

  • can I restore my bookmarks to the new pc from my phone?
  • how can I be sure that when I sync I won't sync the pc's (empty) bookmarks to the phone rather than the good bookmarks from the phone to the pc?

thanks

Yes you can restore your bookmarks.

Look how to use Sync: How to use firefox sync

Restore your Bookmarks from Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and backup your bookmarks > Restore > Select one of the dates.

OK, folks, it's a little more complicated, sigh.

  • twalker's solution would work if my hard drive hadn't died. but my hard drive died completely so i have as far as i know no access to any backups of my bookmarks prior to getting the new machine, unless
  • they're kept up in the cloud somewhere

OR

  • I can get them off my iPhone somehow.

Here's the twist: I seem to have deactivated my sync account when I went back to Firefox 3.whatever b/c of problems with Firefox 4. Can't find an account registered under my email. but I know I did it because the book marks are synced to my phone.

Thanks for reading this far, and any help appreciated.

AFAIK, there is no way to sync your PC to your phone. I'm guessing this is by design, for privacy/security. I would really like to be able to do this myself, but it doesn't seem to be an option.

The only way I know of to put a machine into your sync group is to have access to another machine in the group, or know your username, password, AND key.

Sorry I can't help you with your problem.

If you MUST recover the bookmarks, you can probably find someone/something that will export them from the phone without bothering with sync. It will not be trivial.

OK thanks, I had a feeling it was a wash. Oh well, the world won't end.
