I want to DELETE or BLOCK a SENDER! I already know how to delete messages so this is not what I wanted!

Back in 2011 I wrote a blog post on the subject https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2011/07/blocking-mail-in-thunderbird.html

Then later I wrote a support article based on the blog post which was subsequently enhanced with some instructions on how to write a filter to achieve the blocking outcome. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/blocking-sender.

That is still the state of play.

If you have feedback or suggestions for change to the program they can be submitted here https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/idb-p/ideas
