I reset my Windows10 computer last week, reinstalled Thunderbird and got it to work as POP3 for about 5 days, but now it won't connect to my e-mail account (@prodigy.net), which I normally access through Yahoo Mail. Then on Wednesday, it just stopped working.

Last week I had to enter a passkey in as the password, but it still needed to be set as a "Normal Password". This week I have tried the same passkey as "Normal Password" which doesn't work. I tried using the passkey but specifying "OAuth2", and it doesn't work. I have tried the "Normal Password" with the password I use to get to the Yahoo Mail account on line, and it doesn't work either.

The message I get is "Authentication error" and "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuaration, username or password." So, I thought I might change the passkey, but now I cannot FIND how to change, remove or create a passkey. Not at Yahoo.com nor at att.com. Can you help me? Thanks, Deb Fisher

Since yesterday , Thursday 29th October. Thunderbird has only been displaying the "Inbox" for my account, no emails are visible in it and all of the directories including the deleted emails directory and spam directory are absent. I have Windows 11 installed. I am using the IMAP server for incoming email and have checked that all the settings are correct. My account displays no incoming emails but can send emails. The directories are still absent when running Trouble shooter and the inbox is still empty. In the Account Settings - Server Settings I tested connection to the server and it said secure connection made - this worked for both outgoing and incoming servers. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird but the issue persists. Although I do not change any settings the full set of directories will occasionally appear along with some emails and then seconds later disappear again. My email account is working fine on my phone and tablet using gmail.

My personal Outlook.com account can receive emails normally through Thunderbird IMAP, and sending emails through Outlook.com webmail also works.

However, SMTP sending in Thunderbird fails even though Microsoft OAuth2 sign-in completes successfully.

SMTP configuration:

• Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com

• Port: 587

• Security: STARTTLS

• Authentication: OAuth2

Thunderbird's Error Console shows:

• 535 Authentication unsuccessful

• Error during AUTH XOAUTH2

• 500 Unrecognized command 'Length: 7'

I have verified the settings and refreshed my OAuth2 credentials. The error persists.

This appears identical to Mozilla Bugzilla issue #1917321.

I contacted Microsoft Support (case #7111097598), but the agent referred me to Thunderbird without confirming whether SMTP AUTH is enabled for my mailbox.

Could someone help determine whether this is an OAuth2 configuration issue, a Thunderbird compatibility problem, or a Microsoft-side SMTP restriction?

My TB installation got corrupted due to a hardware/disk issue. On restoring it from backup TB keeps trying to download all messages again. I know this is something to do with the popstate.dat file but I can't seem to stop it. What do I need to do?

Also, I had never noticed this before (because I never looked at the TB file system) but TB created multiple folders for the email account.pop.mail.yahoo-1.com up to pop.mail.yaho-4.com. Why does it do this and is there a way to get back to just one file? Is this something to do with TB crashing or what?

Is it using all of these files or just the latest and how do I know? All of these folders have a popstat.dat file and one has multiple following the popstat-1.dat etc.

I've no idea how to recover from this. Any help would be much appreciated.

For both servers imap.exmail.qq.com / imap.263.net, when I click on the email subject in the email list during downloading processes (many emails headers are being downloaded but email body downloading is not completed), the email is broken without any content (only header).

I go to the web email server and move the email to another folder and then move it back to inbox. Then I delete the same email in Thunderbird and donwload again the email again, it's completely downloaded with the email body.

I don't have any issue with eM client or Outlook for such issues. Any possible setting to solve this issue?

When I attempt to send an email in Thunderbird I get an extensive string of gibberish that I have to delete before I can send the email. What can I do to get rid of this huge irritation? Thanks

I send an email and I get this response as a failed send. Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: resomta-a2p-646964.sys.comcast.net ESMTP server not available (396356/173.46.82.217).

My local Thunderbird program (159.0 (64-bit) on Windows 11) is set to auto-install updates. Upon the update completing earlier today, the inbox and other folders were completely empty. They remain so following a program & computer restart, and also opening the program in troubleshooting mode. I have checked the following: - logging into the online mailbox directly works, and shows all emails - sending a new incoming email to the email address does have the email show up in the remote mailbox but not the local mailbox - sending a new outgoing email from Thunderbird does appear in the local Sent folder, as well as on the receiving email account - the local Thunderbird instance is still able to connect to the IMAP Mail Server (mail.talktalk.net) - the following settings are configured, and I believe haven't changed since prior to the update:

 - Check for new messages at startup is **enabled**
 - Check for new messages every 10 minutes is **enabled**
 - Clean up (Expunge) Inbox on Exit is **disabled**
 - Synchronization & Storage: Keep messages in all folders for this account on this computer is **enabled**
 - Synchronize all messages locally regardless of age is **enabled**

I have ~100gb of space available on my hard drive

I'm not sure what other settings might be helpful. Please let me know if there's anything else I should add.

My issue has two parts. The first is that I want new emails to appear in my local email client upon arriving, as they did previously. The second is that I want to have the full set of emails on my remote account available locally, which is currently no longer the case. There is also no sync activity happening, and apart from establishing the initial connection to the mail server I can't see any activity in the bottom left corner.

When I open Thunderbird, the attached error message pops up, three times, and I cannot receive any emails from sa.mcpherson@comcast.net

For a few weeks now we have been unable to send emails through tbaytel server via Thunderbird. We get SMTP error. This happened after recent upgrades to Mozilla. Any idea when a fix will be out?

My e-mail stopped working a week ago. I get as far as "connecting to IMAP but then get a "Login to server imap.orange.fr with username [redacted]@orange.fr failed" message. I have changed the IMAP and SMTP passwords several times but none seems to work. What am I doing wrong?

On MS Win11, my TBird IMAP client (up to date) has two mail accounts. In one, deleted messages return immediately after deletion! Also, (possibly related), this account has TWO Spam folders (I did not do this). The other mail account's messages stay deleted and has only one Spam folder. I ran the re build tool on the first one without success. I am NOT technical, but have donated several times to TBird (I love it)

The instructions at http://mzl.la/1ApHx1w did not help. FYI: I have TWO "Spam" folders?!?! Could this be the problem?

The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: [SYS/PERM] Your account is not enabled for POP access. Please visit your Gmail settings page and enable your account for POP access.

I have swapped my Internet provider fro Inmotion to Bluehost. When the DNS was changed I can no longer receive emails. I am using Thunderbird. Where do I go to change this? I have a lot of emails that I need to keep. I have them on my computer but cannot receive any new email.

ich bitte um Hilfe, seit dem letzten Update von Thunderbird auf 159.0 (64-Bit) sind meine Mailaccounts verschwunden. Eins konnte ich wieder einrichten, das von T-Online bringt als Fehler ständig "Fehler bei der Authentifizierung" obwohl alles korrekt ist. Thunderbird kann sich automatisch die Serverdaten für IMAP holen, aber sobald ich das Passwort eingebe kommt der Fehler. Das Passwort habe ich jetzt bereits geändert, dennoch funktioniert es nicht. Was kann ich tun?

I followed the instructions in the aritcle on the search page and it still didn't work. I worked with Geek Squad. They completely did all kinds of different settings and they all failed. When I click the test button, it says it connects successfully.

It tells me to retry or update the password.

I am absolutley typing in the correct password.

Problem downloading emails from Yahoo

For years there has been no problem, but about 2 weeks ago downloads stopped. Pane at bottom of Thunderbird says downloading message 1 of 292, but is is stuck at 1 and nothing downloads.

Today something different is happening, it downloads the first 80 messages then returns again and downloads same messages again, then repeats. I now have 17 duplicates of these same 80 emails just in the time to write this and it is still downloading the same 80 over and over again.

I have searched internet for solutions. I have done the following:

Updated to Oauth2 through Yahoo website. Thunderbird shows a saved login password oauth://login.yahoo.com, plus my correct email address, plus an OAuth2 password

Checked all server settings. All correct, e.g, pop.mail.yahoo.com Port 995 SSL/TLS security, and OAuth2 authentication method

From server settings page I tested connection to server which came back successfully

Same as above for outgoing server.

I have ample disk space on my computer and ample data capability on Yahoo account.

Confirmed not in offline mode. Confirmed cookies and javascript enabled.

BTW, I can access all my mail on Yahoo’s web page, but that is inconvenient. I really prefer access through Thunderbird.

I have deleted global-messages-db.sqlite and Thunderbird reestablished it. Did the same for popstate.dat, and inbox.msf

I even uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it but no improvement in the problem.

I am out of options now. What to do? Thanks so much.

So long as I investigated, the problem is,

After version154, received emails in Japanese encoded by 8bit causes misconversion (mojibake). Emails encoded by base64 is not misconverted. Only 8bit encoded shows the problem. Version153.5 is no problem. Version154 and newer shows the problem.

Here are OK/NG by sender/receiver combination. Sender version154 8bit - receiver version154 - NG Sender version154 base64 - receiver version154 - OK Sender version154 8bit - receiver version153 - OK Sender version154 base64 - receiver version153 - OK Sender version153 8bit - receiver version154 - OK Sender version153 base64 - receiver version154 - OK

Emails encoded by base64 is OK, but some senders can encode by only 8bit. I cannot find how they can use base64. It would be helpful to know to use base64 encoding in version154 (or later).

However, the best way is that version154 (or later) can read 8bit encoded email in Japanese. I would like to thank anyone who help the problem.
