what happened to speeddial? I have a laptop but cannot find this feature.

Firefox normally shows 9 thumbnails on the new tab page (Ctrl+t). If that wasn't it, it probably was an add-on.

Do you still have access to your old setup to see which one it was? If not, you can shop around on the add-ons site:
