Ever since your last up-date, my Google search has become Mozilla Google and I am plagued by pop ups on any web site I search. Most times covering up the log in feature to some accounts. Therefore I can't open them. I want the old Google back as my primary search engine.

Chosen solution

1- remove all google software 2- type about:config in urlbar and remove all associated with google what you think may be harmful 3- install noscript, in its settings remove whitelisted google sites 4- use startpage.com as your search provider

alternative way - use firefox 3.6 or another geck-powered browser "k-meleon" woth javascript disabled

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

After your malware cleanup, you might also need to manually disable or remove some add-ons. In particular, disable ALL nonessential and/or unrecognized extensions on the following screen, then restart Firefox using one of the links that appears above a disabled extension:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Any luck?

I tried all of the suggestions and no avail. Yesterday I downloaded 18 important Microsoft updates. One of which must have been for my problem. Thanks for the info.

Please do not try using Firefox 3,6 it is

  • Not secure,
  • Not supported,
  • And will put your personal data and system at increased risk.

Some users will have got into this sort of situation by downloading bundled software & or using an outdated browser in the first place.

If you do not like the current Firefox release use another browser, but please remember Firefox is highly customisable. Anything you dislike in the current Firefox release (fx22) may probably be changeable one way or another.
