My development team has universally experienced that, after upgrading to FF 18, Firefox crashes immediately on start-up. Safe Mode did not fix the problem.

Environment: Corporate Windows XP 32 bit.

Chosen solution

This is caused by websense endpoint. They have released an update (they say it can be downloaded at http://fileshare.websense.com/default.asp?t=418478434532&p=1139) to fix this issue.

Thanks, this is VERY helpful. Should there also be a bug filed to prevent Firefox from crashing in this scenario? It seems like a Proxy shouldn't be able to cause FireFox to crash!

Websense loads a .dll into Firefox, and they didn't properly update their software before Firefox was released, resulting in crashes for their users.

I worked with our Desktop Engeneering team to upgrade Websense and this fixed the problem. Thanks for the help! (note: the fix is not downloadable unless you have the account information for your license)

So for those of us who don't have a Desktop Engineering team....how can we get this fixed?

The link that Tylerdowner posted contains the fix. It is a .msi file to install on your desktop. To download the link, you will need your Websense account information.

A couple alternatives I was exploring: 1. Manually uninstall Websense client 2. Investigate removing the dell manually. There was a Firefox bug posted for an earlier version wich appears to be the same issue and it contains the .dll file information. I don't have the link handy though.

Good luck!
