When I hit (OK) the computer continues toward the application I entered but there may be a whole series of "BAD IMAGE" notices with various .EXE files. Somehow the correct short cut file name got changed from what ever it was to BROWSE~.dll. I can rename it leaving out the "~" symbol but I am not sure what to rename it. Help?

I appeciate all of the suggested remedies. While they did not solve my problem they re-acquainted me with some helpful "tools". What I did was to RENAME the file from BROWSE~.dll to BROWSER.dll. When I rebooted my computer did not have the aforementioned problem. It was great to know that they is a forum for help and many people responded very quickly. Thanks a million. The cause was probably a virus. I ran about 5 different virus removers but I think the virus had already done the damage but at least the virus was purged. I don't know which virus or malware caused the problem but my virus software has removed many viruses.
