I get advertising on Startup
On startup I get advertising in the message pane. I have clicked on this, to see where it goes and it offers Mozilla webpage for sale. Have I been hacked or has Tbird been hacked? Is this the same problem as MS browser's backdoor? How do I get rid of this? thanks

Hi James I un-installed the TBrowse a long time ago. Nestled somewhere in the cookies/cache etc was a Sprout that changed my Opening Page Settings. I shut it down several times but it came back.
The source is from SEDO based in the Bahamas (???)
I did a clean install of T Bird and then migrated my mail files only. This now seems to do the trick. Thanks for your help dennis

thunderbrowse .com is or was the Author's homepage for the Thunderbrowse Extension that is no longer maintained by the extension author.
https://addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/addon/thunderbrowse/
http://web.archive.org/web/20161202161041/http://thunderbrowse.com/
It is neither a Mozilla extension or site and the Thunderbird email client has actually not been a Mozilla product for a while now.
Thanks James, but how do I block, delete or get rid of this? This has only started since January.

If you have the Thunderbrowse extension then maybe uninstall it?

You could have reset the Thunderbird start page to the default: Tools > Options > General > Thunderbird Start Page > Restore Default…
Hi Onno and James
thank you. I tried that, but magically it would come back. I think somewhere in a nook or cranny a vestige of Thunderbrowse lived on; despite my removing the App. I may not have removed it properly/completely. A clean install seems to have worked. thanks to all for your help. dennis
