I recently had to change my password in gmail, now every time I open Thunderbird up which has gmail configured to come through it I get an error message which says "Sending of password for user ............did not succeed. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded : Web login required: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754 I have followed the steps in a previous post that had the same issue as me, where I went into options > security > passwords > saved passwords clicked show passwords and altered the password to the one I reset it at, however this didn't work so I'm stuck on what to try next. Can someone please help me sort this out step by step in a simple form to follow before I go insane ? Thank you in advance.

Thank you all I have to do now is figure out how to update Thunderbird's app, so I don't have to allow access to less secure apps.

Since you're using POP there is little choice. You'll have to allow access to less secure apps, unless you set up 2-step authentication using an app password. Follow the Google instructions for this.

As long as you use a string password there is nothing wrong with allowing access to less secure apps. It is Google speak to push people using their Gmail webmail service. It doesn't necessarily mean accessing your email is actually 'less secure'.
