Currently running Windows 7 Pro. 64 bit. Also, tried downloading and installing Firefox from the website. Same results. Firefox starts up but can't seem to find the internet. Yet, I can send and receive emails and other browsers (Chrome) still work as they always have. Thank you for your assistance.

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}

I tried removing all firefox related files from program list, yet Firefox would not find the internet. I then turned my firewall off with the same results. I use Norton Internet Security as my firewall and internet security system and I am currently trying to contact them. Chrome is now my default browser!

If other programs are getting out onto the net then it is not a Norton Issue. I run Norton also and was a Beta Tester for them, also post there sometimes.

So if you get Norton to Update, IE to run and other programs to check if there are updates then that is not the issue.

Please : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 61.0.0 with a Full Version Installer

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

If need to Check Norton open it. At top Right Click Settings. Click Firewall. Click Program Control. Once list is generated go through the list and find Firefox and see that the setting is set to Allow.

Spent 2 hours on the phone with a Norton Tech yesterday. By the way, those guys are great. We did a full uninstall, delete all old files and reinstall with no improvement. I also turned off the Norton firewall to see if that would work. It did not. At this point, we're pretty sure Norton is not causing the problem

And, yes, I do periodically do a disk backup, cleanup and defrag. Any other ideas?

By the way, I have a BS degree in computer science and want to give it back because this C%$# doesn't work!

LOL,@ degree I knew Norton was not the issue.

Did you uninstall it as I have pointed out in my 1st post and used the full version installer to reinstall not the Stub installer.? This makes a difference.

How can you tell? There is only one choice and it is labeled "Firefox Installer"? (on Mozilla's real website) Anyway, tried it again and Mozilla even said "ready to go", but it never went!!! I done messing with this and I going on vacation to forget about it. Maybe when I come back I will buy an Apple!
