Hello, On my old computer, I exported my Firefox bookmarks to a 41 MB HTML file. On my new computer, I copied this file and, in Firefox, I tried to import this file. However, nothing happens, otherwise a crash of Firefox (it stops responding).

What do you think may be the cause of this failure and how can I proceed?

I wonder if 41 MB is not too heavy. What do you think ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Cordially.

HI Bushka, if the HTML file was not so large, you could open it in Word directly. However, I think opening a 41MB file would cause severe problems for Word, so copying between programs probably was necessary in this case if Internet Explorer can't convert the file.

Wow, that does sound like a very large file. Normally what happens after 30-60 seconds for a slow import is that Firefox will say a script is slow and offer you the option to continue or stop the script. Do you ever see anything like that?

A possible workaround is to import the bookmarks into Windows Favorites via Internet Explorer (I don't know if it's possible using Edge). Then ask Firefox to import from IE instead of a file.

Hello jscher, Thanks for your reply.

My answer is that Firefox did not say the script is slow.

I tried to import in Edge. It worked, but very badly (only a part was imported, and the subfolders became folders).

Since no solution works in my case, I displayed the bookmarks library and then copied / pasted the contents of each folder into Microsoft Word files. It took me all day.

Then, without doing it on purpose, I clicked on the icon of the HTML file in which I had exported my bookmarks yesterday. I realized that this triggered the creation of a tab containing the list of all my bookmarks, grouped under the title of their respective folders. It is then possible to copy all this page to paste it into a Word file. What took me a whole day had just been done in 7 seconds!

A tip: When you copy the contents of a bookmark library folder and copy it to a Word file, the links are not copied line by line, but in continuous text. I noticed that by first pasting this content into a post-it (of my software Notezilla) and then cutting it from this post-it to paste it in Word, the links are copied line by line.

The disadvantage is that in this second case, it is the address of the link that stuck and no longer its explanatory title. The ideal would have been to have the list of explanatory titles, line by line, as it appears in the library of bookmarks, as I managed to do by clicking on the HTML file.

I remember trying that & mine was huge also & didn't really even work. Then I got a better idea/help from someone that knew or found more of how to on it than I did. Okay this worked for me (to import/sync Bookmarks & other Firefox things like History), oh sure you can try that "import/export to html" thing from the Library like I tried, but doing the sync of Firefox account with the other computer/device was much easier. You log in to your Firefox account, make sure you allow that device (sending the Bookmarks & whatever else of account from that is only on there at the moment) to sync the thing you want to "sync" (share with/send to other device/s) to. (lol). I saw another answer about this & it's just how to sync 1 account & sign up for it not the whole process, meh. From what I remember, after that you click "sync now" (under Tools), it'll load for a minute or so then im the (Firefox)Options tab click on (your) Firefox Account, then you can select what you want to sync, THEN you have to make sure the right device "name" is in/under "Device Name" (usually found somewhere in System files/folder in Windows) that you want to send/sync the account info to another first. THEN you find the "Device Name" of the other device, put it in there where the original one was, then just click "Change Device Name" (it's actually just adding/connecting to a device not changing the device you're on to that same name). Then okay you can disconnect/log-off from the device you're on & log-in to your Firefox account from the device you put in the "Change Device Name" area & clivk sync now from Tools if it doesn't automatically(or security asks you to confirm to) add the info. Then that should be it. You should see the other History/Bookmarks/Options/other there on that device too now. That's what worked for me.
