I have re-installed Windows 10 and Firefox ver 57.0.1 and have found that trying to drag a website (selecting 'i') over to the Desktop just freezes the browser for 30 seconds and fails to create a shortcut.

Have tried in safe mode with same behavior.

Any ideas?

Many have reported issues using the 64bit Firefox. Install the 32bit version from; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Thanks for coming back to me FredMcD.

I tried installing and older 32bit version as you suggested and the problem persisted.

Since posting my question I have found that the issue appears to be related to a known bug when doing a fresh install using the 'Fall Creators Update' version of Windows 10.

When you run or right click an internet link, either from a folder or from a web page in Edge, the 'State Repository Service' jumps to 99% CPU usage and it is this that is preventing anything from working.

I am going to try and get an older disk version of the windows 10 install and see if I have any joy with that.

Found useful information relating to this here http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/state-repository-service-high-cpu-usage-windows-10-fall-creators-update/

This solution was only partially successful in my case, may have to wait for a Microsoft update.

Thanks again.
