I already filled and completed this section. It's like I keep repeating the same problem with no kind of response. I prefer Firefox over the others, but I'm trying hard to stay patient. Problem began months ago, prior to that, everything ran smoothly...I'd appreciate some kind of response........

What's your computer system and Firefox version?

How are you opening Firefox? Shortcut or icon?

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.

There are two settings;

  • When Firefox Starts

When the browser is started, what do you want to display? Many of us choose Show My Home Page.

  • Home Page

When a new page is opened, what do you want to be displayed?

  1. Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
  2. Use Bookmark
  3. Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.

You can use any of these that you wish;

about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),

or you can enter any webpage or about: page you want.

Could you be a bit more specific about this 'insecure site', please  ?

What's the name of this site  ?

I am redirected to http://start.att.net/ This is an open HTTP website and current Firefox releases show a warning if that is what you are talking about.

Firefox 51+ will mark HTTP connections with a padlock with a strike through and shows "Connection is Not Secure" if you click the Control Center 'i' button at the left end of the location/address bar.

Note that this message is meant as a warning that you could be vulnerable and that it shouldn't prevent (block) you from accessing the website.

You can press the ESC key to close a doorhanger with a warning message in the name and password field.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

Type about:preferences<enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select

Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.

  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from

Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:

In Firefox 54 and below:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the Advanced panel and the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

In Firefox 55 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the General panel.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.
    Fx55Performance-disableHWA
  4. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  5. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

If the problem is resolved, you should check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in these Knowledge base articles:

If you don't submit any sensitive information on that site, it shouldn't be a problem.

But maybe you'd like to give this add-on a try : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/httprequester/

Or take it up a notch : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/https-everywhere/

hi- will try taking it up a notch, by adding https-everywhere. Will let you know if this works. Appreciate your advice. Thanks again gs

When the website automatically redirects to the HTTP version if you use HTTPS then an extension can't change this and this may even lead to not being able to access the website at all, so use with care.
