I have a fairly new Dell Latitude E7470. I've been using 64 bit Firefox since before I had this machine. About 2 weeks ago, it started crashing whenever a site plays a video (Cnn.com, Youtube.com, etc.) I tried reinstalling. I even tried using the "Fresh start" to wipe out all my extensions, but nothing helped.

I uninstalled Flash, but that had no effect.

I only got the crash dialog occasionally. More often, I got the smaller "Firefox has stopped working" and clicked to restart.

Today I installed 32 bit Firefox and it's fine. Why can't I run 64 Bit Firefox on my up to date Windows 10 system?

YES!. The big difference is it works. LOL

I downloaded the beta and it played the same video that repeatedly crashed v 55.

Does this mean the problem has been addressed going forward, or should I stay with the 32 bit version a while longer?

yes i think we have a patch for this problem in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1362764 - version 56 which includes this will be released in a bit over two weeks time...
