Hi, I'm running Firefox 56.0b10, and I've just realised the search box isn't showing in it's usual position next to the address box. When I enter the customise screen I can see the search box is there, but not in the actual UI. I've tried removing it and then adding it but to no avail. So I'm guessing this is just some bug in the current beta version.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/changes-toolbars-and-window-sizes-are-not-saved You may have corrupt xulstore.json or Localstore.rdf file.

Close Firefox. Open your file browser to this hidden location:

  • Mac: *~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles
  • Linux: *~/.mozilla/firefox/Profiles
  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
  • *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Search for the above files. Then rename or delete them. Restart Firefox.

Hmm, nope that's not working. Thanks though.

In Customize, have you tried clicking 'Restore Defaults'  ?

Tried that, didn't work sadly. Weirdly the window I have in my right monitor did show the search box one time, but now it's gone again. I guess if I did a combination of closing all tabs/windows, and reinstalling it might fix it, but that wouldn't help identify the cause of the issue..

Maybe it will fix itself in the next few updates, otherwise I'll just try a clean install at some point.

Where do you see the search bar?

Try to reset browser.uiCustomization.state on the about:config page via the right-click context menu to the default value.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
