I have installed Thunderbird in my new windows 11 laptop. The number in the "All Mail" folder keeps increasing, but it is empty! It says "No Message Found" It doesn't matter much, but the number will soon be in the thousands, and I don't know if it is using up the memory available to me. Ian McAllister

I am missing some sub folders and also can not create new subfolders. A saved profile does have those subfolders in it but will not show in thunderbird. When I try to create subfolders the "Create Subfolder" is greened out. I have a very old profile from Windows 10 but Idon't what to use it as I would lose my latest emails which are important. What parts of the thunderbird program could be causing this and how do I get my subfolders to show in Thunderbird if they are in the profile.

Hello,

I write because today I found that many email which were saved on some local folders have been deleted I did not that, and cannot figure out how that could happen I checked the Thunderbird setting for retention but found nothing useful I have set the option "Don't delete any message" at any level

Now I need an add-on for Thunderbird which herlps me to undelete the lost messages When I select any local folder's properties it shows me that the size of the folder is not zero, altough the folder appears to be empty That means that the deleted messages are still on the disk Could you please point me to any add-on or package for Thunderbird which can undelete deleted emails ?

My Thunderbird version is 115.18.0 (64-bit) on Linux Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

Thank you for your attention and support

Kind regards, Filippo Lombardo

A mail folder appears suddenly corrupted. The imap folder in question is duplicated but both folders are empty. In my Profile Folder the three associated files/folders have been duplicated - the new variants have weird file names. See screenshot.

If someone can advise on the best strategy to fix this I would be most grateful!

Thank you

In the past I have had no problems creating email subfolders for the various accounts I have configured. Specifically, my folder structure hierarchy for the problem at hand looks like this:

MyAccountName |- Templates {what is this? A system folder?} |- Expected subfolder A |- Expected subfolder B |- etcetera

When I try to create a new subfolder directly under MyAccountName (right click on MyAccountName > New Folder), Thunderbird creates the folder, but as a subfolder of the account inbox. I can't drag it from my inbox down to MyAccountName. I don't want it as an inbox subfolder, I want it in line with the rest of my subfolder hierarchy. Does this weird "Templates" thing have anything to do with it? And what am I doing wrong?

We use multiple emails that share the same folders. I have been trying to sort the emails using filters, so obviously I have to create the folders prior to sorting. It allows me to create the following pathway. Under one user but seen by all users Winter 2025-2026/Registered Soccer/11v11/2018 GIRLS U8/TEAM NAME 1/REGISTRATION Winter 2025-2026/Registered Soccer/11v11/2018 GIRLS U8/TEAM NAME 1/WAIVERS Winter 2025-2026/Registered Soccer/11v11/2018 GIRLS U8/TEAM NAME 1/CONFLICTS Winter 2025-2026/Registered Soccer/11v11/2018 BOYS U8/TEAM NAME 1/REGISTRATION Winter 2025-2026/Registered Soccer/11v11/2018 BOYS U8/TEAM NAME 1/WAIVERS Winter 2025-2026/Registered Soccer/11v11/2018 BOYS U8/TEAM NAME 1.......THIS IS WHERE IT STOPS LETTING ME CREATE THE SUBFOLDERS AND NOW ITS NOT LETTING US DELETE THE FOLDER EITHER. Is there a limit on the number of subfolders each parent folder can have ?? If not what is causing it to not allow me to create the folder? when I say will not allow I am referring to the create button being grayed out and if I change the name of the file and it ends up showing me the create folder button and upon hitting the botton the pop up screen disappears but it does not create the folder. can someone please help me resolve this issue

Thunderbird v. 115.10.1 (64-bit) Windows 10

Several months ago I experienced Inbox email loss whenever I clicked "Compact now" in the "Compact folders" dialog. After a couple of occurrences I trained myself to only click "Remind me later" thus avoiding the email loss. Today I goofed and clicked "Compact now". Many important opened and unopened emails disappeared from my Inbox as a result. I waited a while to make sure Compact folders had completed the operation but no lost emails reappeared. I shut down and relaunched Thunderbird but no lost emails reappeared. I don't know if any of my other folders have experienced this email loss.

My most recent backup will restore some of what was lost from my Inbox. But not the new unread emails.

What can I do to prevent this from happening again? Can I disable "Compact folders" completely so the problem never re-occurs?

I haven't upgraded to Thunderbird 116.0 because my backups are from v. 115.10.1 and I have experienced problems restoring Thunderbird with a previous versioned backup.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Can I use Thunderbird to build an incremental local backup/archive of all messages transiting (incoming/outgoing) a webmail account ?

Any idea how to achieve this ?

My problem is:

  • A POP3 account will miss all folders except the Inbox. (It's a pity that POP4 has not gained traction yet.)
  • An IMAP account creates a mirror, not a backup. Remote deletions in the webmail account must not delete messages from my backup and vice versa.

detailed requirements:

  • one-way sync only, since a local backup/archive must be built, not a mirror (two-way synchronization):
    • Remote deletions must not cause local deletions (otherwise it would be a mirror, not an archive/backup).
    • Local move/delete operations must not be reflected back to the mail server.
    • Read‐only access to the mail server: no moves, deletes or flags remotely.
  • All messages in all folders must be included in the backup: Inbox, Sent, custom folders, etc. Since POP3 can only back up the Inbox, I will probably have to settle for IMAP to include all folders.
  • No duplicates: Messages must not be stored locally more than once.
  • Messages must be stored as full offline copies locally (not just headers).

It works on Thunderbird for Android instantaneously but not for Thunderbird nor the standard Linux email app on my laptop running the latest version of Fedora

I use Mozilla Thunderbird to import and manage my GMail account. It has always worked very well. I have a large number of folders in the Mozilla Thunderbird program (parallels those in Gmail) and, frankly, use it as a filing system. This morning when I went into Thunderbird I discovered that the emails stored in the folders were all gone, except for those from about May 14th 2025 or more recent than that. I have lost a huge amount of information that was kept in those emails in folders. I checked the ALL MAIL folder in Thunderbird and those emails are gone from that folder as well. I followed the instructions Google gave me to check Trash and Spam folders and try to repair the folder but this is doing nothing. I also went directly to GMail and these same emails have been deleted from those folders as well. I have years of important information stored in emails in the Mozilla Thunderbird account and want to know why they disappeared and, most importantly, how they can be retrieved and I can orpevent this happening againin the future! Thanks you for helping solve this problem. I cannot stress enough how much of my professional and personal life is captured in the emails I had stored in the Thunderbird folders so anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Harvey Weingarten
