How to remove "howtosimply" which has taken over my homepage

more options

I was trying to find a cleaning product for a particular problem and I must have inadvertantly clicked on a dangerous link. Now, when I try to open Firefox, instead of the Firefox start page coming up it opns on "howtosimply". It is not listed in my uninstaller. If you can tell me how to get rid of it I shall be extremely grateful. Forgive me if I have been naive. I am an 87 year old "Silver Surfer" and probably not as internet savvy as I should be! Many thanks "Cripplegrandad"

hello, thanks for providing your troubleshooting information. it looks like this problem is caused by a malicious addon in your firefox.

  1. please go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
  2. in addition run a full scan of your system with a security tools like adwcleaner, which is specialised in adware and browser hijackers.
