This was happening a few versions ago and I finally got used to the tedium of removing ff in Windows Task Manager. Now it's back again and I can almost hear the firefox programmers giggling about making people go through this extra step. Disgusting to say the least.

If the developers would be laughing, that's because you're still using an operating system that hit End-Of-Life long over two years ago!

See if this support article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-already-running-not-responding

and maybe this support article, too: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding

I suppose I and the millions of other users of XP should slit their throats as a solution to the problems you see. Not happening.

Hey, you're the one that said "... I can almost hear the firefox programmers giggling about making people go through this extra step. Disgusting to say the least." But I did refer you to the appropriate support articles. IMO, if you dish-out "compliments" you should be gracious enough to accept them when they are "returned".

I still have two WinXP PC's in my home, one that rarely goes on the internet in my workshop and another that my 90 yo mother uses on the internet occasionally.

Which monkey are you - the one that sees no evil, the one that hears no evil or the one that speaks no evil - all three? Right.

We're done here.

You must be doing something odd. Firefox should not give that message in normal use. I still have a working XP and Firefox worked ok on that last time I tried it (For a while now any XP I have has been changed to Multi boot with Linux, that way they are safe to use on the Internet).

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit
