"Insecure Connection" error - some sites - only one profile

more options

Hi, I created a new profile for the kids to use. It is a limited profile. On it, Firefox can access some secure sites but not others. I use Windows 8.1. I tried updating Firefox because, for some reason, it didn't automatically update. I tried deleting cert8.db, clearing cache and cookies, and scanning for malware. I did a couple other troubleshooting steps that I don't remember well enough to elaborate on. I refreshed Firefox, and when that didn't work, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Still no luck. My antivirus is Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition. I'm using the built-in Windows firewall. Can anyone please advise me what to try next?

Could you click the Advanced button and check the detailed error message?

Because BitDefender (not sure about Free) has a feature to filter your browsing, could you check that section of this article: How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites. I guess check the Family Safety section, too.

Well, turns out it was Windows Family Safety. I only had it set up to monitor. "Allow all sites" and "allow all programs" were the settings. When I turned it off, Windows automatically, without warning, changed the account from a child account to a standard account. Huh. Now Firefox can access Google & other secure sites. Thank you. Listing what to check made all the difference.

Thanks for reporting back. There is a way to make Firefox work with Family Safety if you want to apply it to that account. The following thread has the steps: Firefox has problems with security certificates for yahoo and google when my son logs in as a child under a family account in windows 10.
