I am running win7 and TH 38.3. Every now and then, TB will download old emails which I already have. How do I avoid this?

Chosen solution

There are three causes I know of, not the fault of Thunderbird.

1. The mail provider re-indexes the on server mail. (Nothing you can do, but becoming increasingly common with Yahoo mail and those that use it such as BT and AAT) 2. Your anti virus interferes with the download to the point Thunderbird does not get to save the state information of POP downloads. (Disable email scanning in the Anti virus) 3. Hard disk corruption that makes accessing the stored state file impossible. (Run a disk repair utility)

Thanks Matt - so far , so good - no more downloading old emails after a few days now after disabling the anti virus mail checker (check disc didn't come up with anything). However, when I open TB, the programme always reverts to "message pane" being ticked whereas I always select unticked when I close the programme - guess I can live with that though. Thanks for your guidance
