The 41.0.1 New Tab is terrible. I want to open the site I expect in a new tab not look at your suggestions of "Cool" sites. How hard is that to figure out?

I enjoy Firefox. I know I a one of a community of users and that my needs do not represent all needs. I am frustrated though when a major change in the interface to the internet itself is released in Firefox. The New Tab in 41.0.1 is a prime example. Firefox is my interface to the web. When I'm using Firefox with eBay I change my search provider to eBay so I can hi-light text and find other similar items. When I do research my search engine of choice is Google. I change my search provider to google and my hi-lighted text search results are provided by Google. At times, text highlighting does not work and I use cut and paste. When I open a new tab my mind expects my homepage, Google, to be there so I can paste my text into the search box. But, someone may say, why don't you paste it into the search window in the task bar?. I use advanced Google search strings that won't work from the there. I'm sure many advanced users do also.

From my prospective, Firefox has changed the response to clicking on a new tab to a request for a screen full of pop-ups. I realize some Web Newbies may enjoy finding all these new sites and that's wonderful. Please though, don't make me see them If I don't want to. I ask you to let me: about:config make new-tab work the old way = True

Thank you for all the great work you do. Just remember that there are many users who still support the KISS principle.

Kind regards.

In Firefox 41 that browser.newtab.url pref is gone. That pref was being hijacked by malware so frequently so Mozilla decided to remove that pref to eliminate that type of hijack. You will need an extension such as this to restore it. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

Or for having your homepage as the new tab page, try this extension. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage/

If you are using Classic Theme Restorer, go into CTR options > General UI (2) and set your preference for the new tab URL there.

For Super Start you can use the about:superstart page.

This page has been in Firefox for so long now -- since Firefox 13 -- that many users have forgotten it existed and how years ago they had to go into about:config to override it. What has changed is how you override it. That is all.
