I see that you have reported it at GitHub. https://github.com/firefox-desktop/desktop/issues It is up to the developer of that add-on to fix that add-on if it quits working.

It appears that extension is using the "new tab" feature in Firefox, which was changed in Firefox 41. A new API was added and more than likely that extension can be modified to use that new API.

See if this extension does what you need. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/
