How do I fix the Firefox not responding when I go to a pdf

more options

My Firefox seems to work just fine until I go to a pdf form which I normally download but the pdf either takes forever to load or i give up and start a new session. It will load the pdf eventually but I need some of this info immediately. I have not tried to delete and re install Firefox yet because I am hoping this can be fixed prior to that step. What do you suggest? Can it be fixed or do I have to delete/re install?

Does the problem occur when Firefox is trying to load the PDF into a tab for previewing, or does it occur even if you set Firefox to go straight to the Save As dialog?

If you want to make a change to how Firefox displays PDFs, you can do that on the Options page, Applications panel. This article has the steps (but you might choose either external opening or going directly to Save instead of using a viewer in Firefox): View PDF files in Firefox or choose another viewer.
