when i want to close only 1 tab i get a message that i will be closing more than one tab

Make the tab that you want to close have focus (be in front and be active), and then use the closure X on that tab. The X in the upper-right corner, on the Titlebar, is for closing the window and all tabs in that window.

Don't use the close X in the top right corner as that will close the current window with all open tabs.

You can also middle-click a tab with the mouse scroll wheel to close this tab.
