Autocomplete suggests my user ID and date of birth on the log in page of my savings account - how do I stop this?

For the most part autocomplete is really helpful. However, when I log in to my savings account, my user ID and DOB are suggested, allowing anyone on my PC to view my account (a security code is required to carry out any transactions which does not appear to be autocompleted!) - how can I switch this off please? This has started since I reset Firefox (due to slowness, as recommended by Firefox). Thanks.

I know how you can do this:

  1. Remove an autocomplete entry from the suggestion drop-down
  2. Completely turn off form autocomplete
  3. Clear all saved form autocomplete entries
  4. Clear selected form autocomplete entries (using an add-on)

but I don't think Firefox has a built-in feature to be selective about what it saves in the first place.

For the above numbered items:

(1) When the suggestion appears, use the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight the unwanted suggestion in the list and press the Delete key.

See: Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms.

But I don't think this blocks Firefox from saving it again in the future.

(2) Edit your privacy settings in the Options dialog

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy

If it is set to "Firefox will: Remember history" change it to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history". Then you can uncheck the box for "Remember search and form history"

(3) Clear ALL saved form autocomplete data

To clear everything, you can use:

"3-bar" menu button > History > Clear Recent History

If you do not see a list of checkboxes, click the Details button. Then uncheck all the categories other than "Form & Search History" so those are preserved. At the top, set the time range to Everything and then click Clear Now.

(4) Clear SOME saved form autocomplete entries (when you're not currently using the form)

You need an add-on for this. In the past, I've only tried this one but there might be other good ones: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/form-history-control/
