perhaps if you just had a few empty boxes so someone could write in the name of the search engine and firefox would know the complex URL's connected to the name of the search engine.............

After today's Firefox update (7/30/26), I can't activate DuckDuckGo search. When I type a search in the URL bar, if i select a bookmarked URL, it will launch the bookmarked URL. However, if I select a search query (ex. "sonicare toothbrush" in attached pic #1), it won't allow me to press enter to launch a search.

Under Settings, when I click on "Activate" DuckDuckGo search (attached pic #2), nothing happens.

I tried to use Firefox as my search engine but that didn't work so I re-downloaded DuckDuck, but the address bar say "search with google". I use to have DuckDuck but deleted it because I got tired of sites wanting to know my location. How do I get rid of that. I've tried all options in the settings file. I would prefer

This small but negatively impactful change is wrecking my workflow. Can anyone help with a userChrome.css fix to restore the old functionality?

I am trying to change my default search engine to Firefox and it isn't allowing me. What could be preventing this? and how do I get around it? Thank you in advance for your help.

I have Brave set as default search engine. I type in the address bar, hit enter, and always get a Brave screen with "404 Nothing matches the given URI". I downloaded the Brave browser and the problem goes away. But I prefer Firefox as my browser, so I'm hoping there is an easy fix to this.

Recent builds have changed the way that the user can direct queries to the various search engines that can be added (i.e. eBay, Wikipedia, IMDB etc) - to a new configuration that is awkward and forces more clicks.

Here is the method that currently allows reverting to the previous approach :

in about:config

Set string "browser.search.widget.new: to false

... and to delay automatic deletion of engines set "browser.search.widget.removeAfterDaysUnused" to thousands

Posting this for increased visibility for folks encountering the issue and in the hopes that Mozilla will consider not degrading a well-performing interaction pattern

Over the years I've added dozens of additional search engines; periodically I've "archived" lesser used search engines by toggling their visibility (to reduce clutter and speed up my search process), and when an "archived" engine becomes relevant to me again I've simply toggled the engine back to a visible state. However, as of version 152, this functionality appears to have been removed for user-added search engines. Is there a way to restore this functionality?

I've searched here and elsewhere on the web for a workaround, and perused the about:config variables, but have not been able to find anything. The show/hide functionality is still present for builtin search engines, so it seems like there must be some way to restore it for all search engines.

I have some keywords linked to some searches saved as bookmarks - image attached as an example.

I have noticed that the keywords are no longer working in my URL bar. I am using Firefox Developer Edition, and I think the keywords have stopped working since version 153 was released.

The keywords on the proper search engines are still working.

Has anyone else observed this?
