Can a programme install that asks to set something as your homepage/search bar set it even though the user preferences are locked?
I set up the files and what not on a personal home computer so that the search bar thingy to right of the address couldn't be changed from Google and the same for the homepage, however because this isn't my personal computer that I use I don't know what it is used for or what is installed and I know a lot of installs ask to set something as default search provider. So even with the locked preferences can the homepage and search bar thing still be changed by an install? (Sorry for being long winded)

Hi maddock34,
Potentially, the preferences should be saved with an update, but with a clean reinstall the profile folder will not keep the preferences.js file the same. It will be overwritten. Installs may be made by the system/admin but this will depend on how you locked the preferences.
Did you lock preferences this way? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences
Yes, I did lock them using the method outlined by mozillazine
