Why does firefox show up as a plugin on volume mixer? After updating a flash plugin into firefox (when it had requested me to update it), it no longer shows up as firefox in volume mixer. It now shows up as some plugin icon. I really don't understand this, and wish it to be the firefox icon again. What is going on and what happened? It names itself "Plugin Container For Firefox" What does that mean? It has been this way ever since, and nothing I have done has fixed this. Restarting, refreshing, reinstalling, clearing cache, etc. Can anyone think of something please? :(

Every time Firefox opened

Firefox 3.6.4 an later can run plugins is a separate process (Out-Of-Process-Plugins) to avoid that if a plugins crashes that it takes down the Firefox program as well. See What is plugin-container

Uh, its not protecting anything that crashed it, if I'm not crashing, and its showing as a plugin Icon for the full Firefox itself. I think you aren't understanding whats going on. Could you re-read my problem again? I think I explained it just fine...

Firefox 3.6.6 no longer opens the Flash plugin in its own program but opens the Flash plugin in a separate plugin-container program with the consequence that that plugin-container program shows in the volume mixer and not Firefox. There is nothing wrong with that, it is only a preventive measure to prevent the Firefox program from crashing is case of problems with a specific plugin. If a cash occurs then the plugin-container program crashes and Firefox is not affected.

I have a problem with the plug in container, it clashes with flash working in other browsers and it decreases the volume massively to something like 20% of the current volume. Any fixes?
