Since the upgrade to 31.3 my groups have all disappeared

Since the upgrade to 31.3 my groups are no longer listed on the left side column with my contacts when I write an email. All of the contacts are there, but the groups are not. When I go to the address book the contacts are listed but not in the "write" tab. I know that I can right click on the group in the address book and click on "write" but I prefer to send the group as a bulk "BCC" . When the groups were available on the left hand column, I could just drag the hole group to the BCC section of the email.
