cannot read my bookmarks
Hi folks,
Novice here, so please be gentle!
I've today started transferring files and software to my new laptop.
I've installed Firefox on the new machine, and copied my profile onto a usb stick. The profile was then loaded to the new Firefox.
My problem is that rather than click on "Bookmarks" at the top of the screen and all my bookmarks drop down, I have a button at the top right of my screen which calls itself "display your Bookmarks". Pressing it, and the usual list of folders drops down ... However, I cannot get in to any of them. Clicking on one of them just gets me a box around the option I'm choosing, with what appears to be a tiny box in the top right hand corner of it.
Help! What am I doing wrong?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Is that the Bookmarks Menu button with the drop marker?
Try to disable hardware acceleration.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Hi there,
Tried all that, with no real success.
I can now see icons to click to open .... for instance, my first folder is called "Annie & JP", inside, one of the links is to a website called Starfall. I can see an icon called "Starfall", but when I click on it, all I get is the Firefox support home page. Its the same for all the icons I can actually click. Other sub directories still won't open up.
I'm beginning to suspect that the profile I loaded was corrupt ......

If you don't like FF Bookmarks (popping up in the middle of the page), here is a way to access your old original IE favorites without importing and have the old familiar sidebar look and feel. You can use the original favorites or set up any folder and add links such as this on. The folder is opened when you star your computer and left open. Open the folder (red arrow bottom) then open FF and reduce the screen. Adjust the two windows to your own liking - see attached example. When you want your favorites, simply "reduce" (red arrow upper right corner) the screen to its preset size. When you have your page loaded simply expand the window or tap the cursor on FF window and it will open up full again. The Bookmarks (Favorites) always remains on the same window (folder) you left it in.
You can also take this folder on a flash drive with you and use on any computer.
