Drop down arrow

Hello, the solution to restore the drop-down arrow worked fine the first time around, but once Firefox updated again (earlier this week), it removed the drop-down arrow and the fix no longer works. In general, Firefox now feels more like Chrome, which is unfortunate. Not everyone wants a hyper-streamlined experience (e.g. removing the tool bar -- I just learned how to get it back). Users should not have to discover tricks to maintain simple usability features.

Is there a way to restore the drop-down arrow and maintain it?

Thank you!

Hi tikidice, do you mean the little triangle-like button in the address bar that showed your frequently visited URLs?

There isn't any built-in way to restore that button, but you can get that list in two other ways:

(1) Type a space in the bar

This works either in an empty bar or by replacing the current address.

(2) Change the automatic dropping list from the first 8 new tab page Top Sites to your Frequently Visited URLs

You can do this by turning off the "Top Sites" section of the Firefox Home / new tab page. The following article shows where to do this on the Preferences page: Customize items on your Firefox New Tab page.

(The list drops automatically when the cursor enters the address bar. If yours doesn't do that, you could check whether the browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus preference has been switched to false in about:config. See: Configuration Editor for Firefox.)

If you don't want lists to drop from the address bar automatically and you need a "mouse-only" solution that doesn't involve typing a space, I did create an add-on which shows a very similar frequently visited URLs list. This uses a toolbar button outside the address bar; there wasn't any way to integrate it into the address bar.
