Can only RECEIVE mail on Firefox; cannot do anything else!

I'm trying Firefox's Mail add-on app and it works brilliantly for incoming mail to my sole account BUT I cannot send, forward or do any of the useful things a mail client offers. If I try to reply to a received email the 'FROM' line is blue'd out and even if I ignore that and try to reply my message is not sent. Same with 'FORWARD'. It seems such a lovely simple program so I'd appreciate any assistance in getting it set right. Regards, Roger Marchant
